As we are drifting into the crisp Autumn season, I am so ready for Winter! Our colder months are usually filled with great hikes, chilly days with warm meals, and something strong to drink as a reward!
Don’t get me wrong, I love Fall. The baking, the spice scents around our home, the cozy feeling that you get as you notice the seasons changing. Obviously, Halloween/Samhain and all the spooky goodness that surrounds that time of the year.
That said, I enjoy being outside in the cold. And by *cold*, I don’t mean Texas at 55 degrees in January. I’m talking the bitter cold winds that make you feel alive (and a little scared) when you are in the middle of nowhere; it’s a thrill for me. Which is why, this past winter in the dead of February, we did a totally normal thing (not) and headed to the Arctic!
Hiking the Chilean Patagonia in the Torres del Paine region last year was a huge deal for me and a major tick off my bucket list. Trekking Northern Norway was number two on my list! We flew into Tromsø and began our journey into Lyngsedet, where we would spend the next several days getting up before the sun and hiking as much and as far as we could. Afterward, we savored fresh caught Cod and Salmon from the fjord and maybe indulged in a sauna or two.
I still remember the absolute stillness that surrounds when you are 350km above the Arctic circle and rising with the sun. I thought I would do some reminiscing and throw together 25 pictures of what is one of our best hiking trips to date. (Okay, maybe 28, I can only limit myself so much)
I hope these pictures will inspire you to do the same!
Nothing feels better than a 200F sauna after a day of exploration in sub zero temps!!
